When shopping for a new television, it is important to remember that a cheap TV is not always the best choice. Think about what you hope to get out of your television before committing yourself to one of the cheapest TVs that are unlikely to hold up over time.

Most of the major television brands cost a little more than the dirt cheap LCD TVs and plasmas you might find online. This is by virtue of having a brand name reputation to uphold. Cheaper manufacturers often create knock-off brands based on the more popular names or constantly rebrand themselves so negative word of mouth can't spread for their company.

When To Buy a Cheap TV and When to Go Brand Name

Obviously, if reliability is a priority, then a cheap television is probably not the best buy. A brand name TV set should last a good, long time without any major hassles for the customers. It is important to remember, though, that brand names doesn't have to be synonymous with expensive! A savvy shopper will be able to find cheap brand name televisions without any frustration.

That isn't to say that off-brands aren't entirely without their uses. Although the lifespan of the cheapest televisions can be as short as three years on average, that might be just right for you. If you're planning to buy a television that you won't be using for more than a short period of time, don't be afraid to purchase a cheap one rather than spend more on something you'll be getting rid of shortly. This is the perfect solution for college students who'll be leaving the dorms and most of their possessions behind in a few short years.

Cheap LCD TVs: Worth the savings?

Not all televisions are created equally. Customers who choose a cheap LCD or cheap plasma TV over a more trusted name will immediately see a difference in quality. Buying a cheap LCD TV or cheap plasma TV will result in over saturated images and other problems. This will be extremely noticeable during programs or movies with lots of quick movement or filmed in dark locations.

Cheap plasma TVs will often have difficulty displaying matte black and other dark shades. Other issues that could plague cheap LCD and plasma TVs are ghosted images and blurry pictures. In most cases, the brand name product will provide both better quality and more reliability. However, if you need lots of space filling plasma televisions, the cheapest plasma TVs might be an acceptable choice.

Although there are some situations where buying a cheap television makes sense, it is usually in the consumer's best interest for them to choose the a slightly more expensive brand name option. The reliability, quality, and customer service you can expect from a brand name television will almost always outstrip the cheapest televisions. Be sure to do some research on different products so that there's no confusion over what type of TV is best for your situation.
